Animal Kingdom is one of Disney’s most magical parks, offering a unique blend of thrilling rides, incredible animal encounters, and immersive experiences. But remember, the park closes at 6:00 p.m., so you’ve got to make every minute count! Here’s how to maximize your day and create unforgettable memories.
Start Your Adventure in Africa
Right off the bat, head to Africa for the Kilimanjaro Safaris. This iconic ride takes you on a guided tour through the savanna, where you’ll see elephants, lions, giraffes, and more. Pro tip: grab a Pineapple-Orange Soda Float from Tamu Tamu Refreshments before hopping in line. It’s the perfect way to stay cool and refreshed while waiting. Plus, there are trash cans along the queue, so you can toss your cup before boarding.
The safari vehicles fit four adults per section, and you’ll be reminded to keep kids seated safely. For some reason, we saw way more animals on the left side of the bus—maybe it was just our day, but it’s worth noting! The highlight? A giraffe walked right past our bus—it was magical!
Catch The Festival of the Lion King
After the safari, stick around Africa for The Festival of the Lion King. This 30-minute show is a must-see, with acrobatics, live vocals, and all your favorite songs from The Lion King. Shows happen every hour, so check the schedule. We sat in the very back and still had an amazing view—there truly isn’t a bad seat in the house!
Lunch in Asia: Yak & Yeti Local Food Cafes
By now, you’re probably hungry, so head over to Asia for lunch at Yak & Yeti Local Food Cafes. I highly recommend the Korean Fried Chicken Sandwich—it’s packed with flavor, thanks to the kimchi slaw and hot honey sauce. Plus, it comes with fries! Pro tip: You can always ask for a free cup of water at any Disney dining location. I poured mine into my trusty Owala water bottle, and two cups filled it right up.
Thrill Ride: Expedition Everest
After lunch, take on Expedition Everest, a roller coaster that’s as thrilling as it is scenic. The ride takes you through the “Himalayas,” and halfway through, you’ll even go backwards! It’s smooth, fast, and doesn’t go upside down, making it a great option for thrill-seekers of all ages.
Step into the World of Pandora
Next, take a leisurely walk to Pandora – The World of Avatar. The architecture here is breathtaking, and it truly feels like you’ve stepped into another world. Stop by Pongu Pongu for a Night Blossom—a sweet, frozen non-alcoholic drink that’s perfect for beating the heat. If you’re feeling adventurous, try the margarita version!
But the real star of Pandora is Avatar Flight of Passage. This ride is hands-down one of the best experiences in all of Disney. You’ll feel like you’re actually flying on the back of a banshee over Pandora. The line can be long, but it’s worth every second. Pro tip: Play I Spy with your group to pass the time. (I won the round when we spotted the red cat ears!)
Don’t Miss Dinosaur Before It’s Gone
If you’re a fan of the Dinosaur movie, make sure to ride the Dinosaur attraction in DinoLand U.S.A. before it’s transformed into something new. It’s a nostalgic blast from the past and a fun way to end your day.
Stay Hydrated and Have Fun!
Throughout the day, remember to stay hydrated. I brought my Owala water bottle and refilled it whenever I needed. Disney makes it easy to stay cool and refreshed, even in the Florida heat. Pro tip: be sure to pack some deodorant with you, and some good socks and shoes for walking.
Final Thoughts
Animal Kingdom is a park full of wonder, adventure, and unforgettable experiences. From the animals on the safari to the thrills of Expedition Everest and the magic of Pandora, there’s something for everyone. Don't forget to bring a Disney themed t shirt!
