Hi there, it's Alex from WTI. I am learning about so many interesting things in this Dictionary of Cliches book. So, you ever wondered something like, you know, why do we say that thing? Like saying things like not to beat around the bush or hedge the vet. This is a must-read for every Tom, Dick and Harry under the sun. Who came up with these things? Why do we say that? So, this book has over 2000 different entries of random things we say all the time, but I don't know why we say it. So, this gives you a history of why we say the things that we do. So, for example, Heavens to Betsy. I say that, but I don't know why. So, it gives you a definition. So, that's astonishing or it's hard to believe. Charles E. Funk chose this expression as the title of one of his books before he attempted to trace its origin, which he was never able to do. One might imagine Betsy to be Elizabeth I, but she was popularly known as Bess. And in any case, the expression seems to have originated in the United States. The earliest printed version, apparently, is in R.T. Cook's Huckleberries from New England Hills. Heavens to Betsy, gasped Josiah. That's so cool. So, now I know where that cliche came from and there's just so many to learn about. And, you know, I just keep on my coffee table. If I got a couple minutes, I'll pick it up and give it a read and learn about a couple other different cliches. It's a really cool book and I've really enjoyed reading it. And that's my point of view.
