"If you’re planning a trip to Whistler, British Columbia, and wondering whether the Peak-to-Peak Gondola is worth it during the summer, let me tell you—it absolutely is!"
Hey, travel friends! If you’re planning a trip to Whistler, British Columbia, and wondering whether the Peak-to-Peak Gondola is worth it during the summer, let me tell you—it absolutely is! I recently experienced it for myself, and I’m here to share why this adventure should be at the top of your summer bucket list.
1. Spectacular Views of the Coast Mountain Range
The number one reason to do the Peak-to-Peak Gondola? The views. Oh, the views! Whistler is already stunning but seeing the Coast Mountain Range from 1,400 feet above the valley floor is next-level breathtaking. The gondola is fully enclosed, so you can relax and soak in the panoramic vistas without worrying about the elements.
We opted for the Summer Alpine Experience tickets, which I highly recommend. This pass gives you access to both Whistler and Blackcomb Mountains, the Peak-to-Peak Gondola ride between them, and the Peak Express Chairlift. Trust me, it’s the best way to make the most of your day.
2. The Cloudraker Skybridge and Raven’s Eye Lookout
The highlight of my trip? The Cloudraker Skybridge and Raven’s Eye Lookout. To get there, you’ll take the Peak Express Chairlift—a 15-minute open-air ride that takes you over an ancient glacier and up a 100-foot vertical cliff. If you’re afraid of heights, this part might test your limits, but the views are worth every second of courage.
The skybridge itself is an engineering marvel. It’s cantilevered and sways slightly as you walk across, which adds to the thrill. By the time we reached the end, the swaying felt more pronounced, and I’ll admit I picked up the pace a bit! But the views from the bridge are unlike anything I’ve ever seen. You’ll feel like you’re on top of the world, surrounded by jagged peaks and endless skies.
Pro tip: Visit around midday if you can. The morning clouds tend to clear by then, giving you the clearest, most spectacular views.
3. A Unique Summer-Only Experience
One of the biggest advantages of visiting Whistler in the summer? The Cloudraker Skybridge is only open during the warmer months. That’s right—this incredible experience isn’t available in the winter, so if you’re visiting between May and October, don’t miss your chance! Depending on when you visit, you may want to bring clothes such as: jeans, t shirts, running shoes, and maybe even a light coat to stay comfortable while you're up in the air.
4. Relive the 2010 Winter Olympics
Before you hop on the Peak Express Chairlift, take a moment to soak in the Olympic history around you. Whistler was a key venue for the 2010 Winter Olympics, and standing in the same spot where athletes competed is pretty surreal. It’s a little bonus moment of inspiration and awe.
5. A Bird’s-Eye View of the Forest
As you glide across the Peak-to-Peak Gondola, you’ll get an incredible bird’s-eye view of the lush forests below. It’s a perspective you can’t get anywhere else, and it really drives home how vast and beautiful this region is.
Final Thoughts
If you’re heading to Whistler this summer, the Peak-to-Peak Gondola and the Cloudraker Skybridge are experiences you simply can’t miss. From the jaw-dropping views to the thrill of walking across a swaying bridge high above the mountains, it’s an adventure that will stay with you long after you’ve returned home.
