Transcript
Hey there, it's Ashley from WTI and what I have is this book called Those Shoes. This is by Mary Beth Bolts and it's a really great story. It's a story with a few different lessons. I haven't read a book like this that has really touched me in a while and this I would have to recommend for all kids because it's something that a lot of us have either gone through or we can look at our lives, look at our friends' lives and we can help them out. And so essentially it's about this boy who really wants these awesome sneakers. The kids in his school have them. It makes them run fast, but his grandmother can't afford them. So he's on the hunt for these sneakers and it ends with a really nice lesson of giving up these sneakers to somebody else because he finally found a pair, but they didn't fit them. And so it really helps kids to realize that there are hardships and it's not always about them. It's not always about what they want, but they can also give to other people and it's also about what is needed at the time, which is what his grandmother says. She says, you don't need a new pair of sneakers. You need a new pair of winter boots. So I really like this story. I like the illustrations. I like that it's very relatable and it's a great lesson for kids to read about, but that is just my point of view.
