It's solid wood and it comes with a mat so it mats to 12 by 16. Now I had a very special piece of artwork that I'm giving as a gift and this is the perfect frame. I love its solid wood design. I also appreciate the fact that it has the mat. It just adds that lovely professional look to the entire gift. It's also really easy to place your artwork inside and you feel secure because the tabs that hold the back to the frame are very easy to use and very secure. I also like the fact that there are two hanging options, both horizontal and vertical. So whatever you are trying to place in this frame and hang, you're going to have the options you need to make it a success. It's well packaged and the plastic surface of the frame is protected by a film so it's not going to be scratched or have even any fingerprints on it. When you first take that backing off, it's on both sides. You just have to peel that off and then you just have to assemble the frame back together again. It's really easy to use. I'm so happy with the way the artwork came out and I'm really pleased. I think it's going to make an amazing gift. So if you have something special that you want framed, you can trust this frame. I'm really happy with it. I think it's going to make a lovely gift and it really sets the artwork off and especially that mat. I really appreciate the matting because it comes with the frame so you can either do it with mat or without just depending on what you're looking for.
