I can set it on my desk and maneuver it so that I can have the best angle to take a picture or do a video. It opens wide or small but it has this little clamp here that allows the head to swivel and this is the part that holds my cell phone. So it comes right off. It's two pieces and this part is the part that holds the cell phone. It extends wide enough to hold a nice wide cell phone. It has two quarter inch threads, one in the back and one on the bottom. It has a little stand that opens so if you only wanted to use this part, you can put it on your desk and clamp your cell phone in and take your picture or your video. It's so cute and small and portable. I really love it. I highly recommend it and that is my point of view.
