There are instructions, but essentially there's three arms. There are no tools required. All you do is that you take one end and you just put a little muscle power in there and it will squeeze into the other. You don't have to worry about it coming out on its own because it sticks in place really well. Also, the fact that it is made with aircraft grade aluminum and it's durable and you can feel it as you're holding it like it feels heavy, it feels stable. The fact that this desk mount can adjust at all different sorts of angles helps it feel comfortable when you're using it. You can adjust it the head down. That way you can type on it or you can adjust it upwards and have that perfect angle for all your conference calls. When you're done, you can simply just swing it away. If you'd like to use a tablet but you're tired of always holding it, then this long arm desk mount is going to make life easier because it clears up your space and also it holds your tablet at all different positions so you don't have to.
